Comparing Medicare Insurance Plans
Original Medicare: If you are like most Senior Citizens in the USA, the cost of your health care is paid and covered through the U.S. Government’s Medicare Insurance program. The Original Medicare began in 1965 in order to help senior citizens pay for the cost of their health care.
Unless you meet certain income guidelines, you will pay a monthly premium for the Medicare plan. The cost of the Medicare premium has gone from $3.00 a month in 1965 to $148.50 a month in 2021.
The Basic Medicare, or Medicare Part A, plan provides you with hospital coverage. If you want more than hospital coverage including medical insurance, please look at Medicare Part B as well as Medicare Health Insurance Supplement plans.
Medicare Part B covers preventative health care to help detect and treat illnesses and disease. It also includes payment for services deemed medically necessary to diagnose and provide treatment to you, the Medicare member. There is a $147 deductible per year with Part B which the Medicare patient is responsible to pay. In addition, you will be responsible for a percentage (usually 20%) of your health care costs.
There are also two additional Medicare options available to help you cover the cost of these expenses. If this sounds confusing, we do understand your frustration. We are happy to explain it to you when you contact us for your Medicare Insurance Supplement quote.
Medicare Supplement Insurance
What is Medicare Supplement Insurance? Medicare Supplement Insurance plans are an additional option to the standard Medicare program. These supplemental plans, also referred to as Medigap insurance policies, are available as an added purchase to your Original Medicare plan. Medicare Supplement plans are designed to help pay some of the costs that Medicare does not cover. For example, a Medigap plan typically reduces or eliminates the normal deductibles and co-insurance payments that you normally are responsible for paying.
These plans do not include prescription drug coverage. However, you can purchase a separate prescription drug plan along with your Medicare supplement insurance.
Depending on your financial and physical health, you may want to consider supplemental Medicare coverage. Knowing that you have coverage when a medical diagnosis occurs can bring you, and your family, peace of mind. We here at Medicare Plans of America are able to help you get quotes from the top Medicare supplement plan providers in your state when you call for your Medicare Supplement Insurance Comparison.
Medicare Advantage Plans
In recent years, Medicare Advantage Plans have gained popularity with America’s seniors. These plans are an alternative to Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans will offer extra benefits that Federal Medicare and most Medicare Supplement plans will not. Most Medicare Advantage plans include prescription drug coverage that is equal to or better than Medicare’s standard.
Medicare Advantage Plans vary in cost and the coverage that is included. Some Medicare insurance providers offer zero cost on their basic plan and varied pricing on the premium coverage plans. The Medicare Advantage Health Plan includes Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance). The plans are often administered through a HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) or a Preferred Provider Access Organization. Visit our Medicare advantage plans page for an instant quote on these types of Medicare Health Insurance plans.
When selecting your Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan as well as a Medicare Advantage Plan, please remember that you will still be responsible for the monthly Medicare premium.
